The IMCOM One Page Play Festival and Theatre Skills Workshops is presented annually to provide theatre training opportunities for Entertainment volunteers, staff and the public. The weekend includes an Open Mic Improvisation Night, a One page Play Competition, A Monologue Competition, a stage combat workshop and workshops in singing, acting and directing. Free, guest showcase performance of "Lobby Hero" by
Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF)

Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the KMC Onstage

AITAF is a non-profit theater company established by actor and former US Marine, Adam Driver. 4 actors from Broadway, film and TV, will present a free, staged reading of a contemporary adult drama, "Lobby Hero." The cast will meet the audience following the show.

Please note"Lobby Hero" is an adult drama with mature languages and situations. It is not recommended for under 18 years of age.

 

Cast

 

Gideon Glick, was in the original Broadway productions of Spring Awakening and Spiderman: Turn off the Dark. Glick has also appeared in the TV Series Elementary, The Good Wife and It Could Be Worse.

Darren Goldstein appeared in the films Detroit and The Girl on the Train and on TV in The Affair, Person if Interest, Inside Amy Schumer and American Odyssey.

Rachel Brosnahan  appeared on TV in House of Cards, Manhattan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Blacklist and Black Box and also starred in the film, Patriots Day.

Grantham Coleman appeared on TV in Girl on the Side, The Carmichael Show, NCIS: LA, 11.22.63 and The Americans. He also played "Romeo" in Romeo & Juliet at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Mortiz von Stuelpnagel (Director) won a Tony Award for directing Hand to God. He recently directed Kevin Kline in Present Laughter on Broadway.

Friday, Oct 6

6 p.m. Monologue Competition Sign-up. (KMC Lobby)

Sign up to be part of this exciting Monologue Competition. Coaching sessions with guest artist and coach, Kathy Pingel, will be held throughout the day on Saturday. Seven monologues will be selected for a “Monologue-off” on Sunday afternoon and trophies awarded for the top three. Must be present to sign up. Open to ages 14 years and up.

 

7 p.m. “Play as You Go!” - An Open Improvisation Night (KMC Onstage Theater)

A night of riotous improvisation. Be in the audience or be on stage – it’s your choice! Watch the cream of US Army Entertainment performers at their top game as they challenge themselves and the audience with quick decision-making on stage. From drama to comedy - anything might happen…and probably will. Games played and scenarios made up – all in front of your very eyes. Don’t just sit there! Get up on stage. You know you want to! Recommended age 14 +

 

Saturday, Oct 7

8:30-9:45 a.m. “Take Arms!” – A Stage Combat Workshop. (KCAC Ballroom, Daenner Kaserne)

A terrific stage combat workshop for both novices and those with lots of experience. Lead by professional fight choreographer, Dörte Jensen, the workshop teachs how to present chilling and real-like violence in a stage production without an actor getting hurt. Open to ages 10 years and up.

 

10-11 a.m. Creative Discussion with Arts in the Armed Forces (KCAC Ballroom, Daenner Kaserne)

The actors of the Arts in the Armed Forces will meet with Entertainment participants and the public to discuss theatre and the communicative power of the art.

 

11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Scheduled Monologue Coaching Sessions

With Kathy Pingel (Location to be announced)

 

11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. “Put Pen to Paper” – Writing and Directing a One Page Play. (KCAC Ballroom, Daenner Kaserne)

An introduction to and a workshop in creating, writing and directing One Page Plays. This is the first step in creating scripts for Sunday’s One Page Play Competition. Get your creativity and imagination on and see what you have to tell the world in One Page or less. No previous experience required. Open to all interested writers and directors.

 

11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. “Sing the Story” – A Vocal Technique Workshop (KMC Onstage Theater Classroom)

Learn how to better tell the story of a song; be more communicative and expressive singer; and improve your casting chances. Presented by guest artist, Suann Strickland.

 

2-5:30 p.m. One Page Play Casting and Rehearsals. (KCAC Ballroom, Daenner Kaserne)

The writers and directors have done their magic and it is the time to put the One Page Plays together. An open casting call will fill out the new One Page Plays and rehearsals will start. Casting will open to everyone ages 10 years and up. No previous experience is required.

 

7 p.m. Arts in the Armed Forces presents “Lobby Hero” (KMC Onstage Theater)

Arts in the Armed Forces will present a staged reading as the Festival Showcase Production. This production is contains adult language and mature situations and is not recommend for those under 18 years of age. Open discussion with the cast followin the performance.

 

Sunday, Oct. 8

 8:30-9:30 a.m. “Gilding the Lily” – Polishing the Play Techniques for Actors and Directors. (KMC Onstage Theater Classroom)

Learn techniques for final polishing and fine-tuning a play during the last phases of rehearsals, concentrating on the use of interpersonal communication tools. Presented by Guest Artists, Ron Ziegler and Kathy Pingel.

 

9:45 -12:45 p.m. One Page Play Rehearsals and Tech Times. (KMC Onstage. Schedules TBA)

                  

1:30-2 p.m. The “Monologue-Off” Competition (KMC Onstage Theater)

Come see the finest actors face off in a duel of monologues. From comedy to drama, this competition is always exciting and surprising.

 

2:30-5 p.m. The One Page Play Presentations (KMC Onstage Theater)

The one-page Play is the THING! These plays were written and directed throughout the weekend. Presented for the very first time ever, these imaginative scripts will highlight the talent and creativity in Army Entertainment programs. Only one page long, these plays will run the gamut of theatrical expression and art.                

 

5:30-6 p.m. Festival Awards Presentation (KMC Onstage Theater)

The awards for Best One Page Play and Best will be announced and awards presented.
